Key reasons why Chelsea chose Enzo Maresca to Mauricio succeed Pochettino

Enzo Maresca was formally revealed as the replacement to Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea on Monday, following weeks of rumours linking him with the Blues. The Italian led Leicester City to a championship victory last season.

The Blues backed the Italian manager as an elite-minded manager who was the right match for the club. The Italian tactician has been chosen due to 4 primary reasons, which were highlighted by Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, in a statement they issued:

Chelsea officials applaud Maresca’s strong leadership skills and exciting style of team play

According to football.london, we got a real look at the factors that influenced Chelsea’s decision to go for the former Leicester City man.

“We are delighted to welcome Enzo to Chelsea. He has proven himself to be an excellent coach capable of delivering impressive results with an exciting and identifiable style.”

“Enzo has deeply impressed us in our discussions leading up to his appointment. His ambitions and work ethic align with those of the club. We thoroughly look forward to working with him.”

Maresca’s appointment was heavily influenced by his tactical expertise, which he gained while working as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. He is known for his innovative strategies and brings a new perspective to Chelsea’s playstyle.

Former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino lasted just one season.

The Blues made a shortlist of five managers, which included Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank, but it was Maresca who stood out and impressed the Blues board. He will start his work as the new Chelsea manager.

The Blues backed the Italian manager as an elite-minded manager who is the right match for the club. Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs, and our achievements are a testament to that. We are also a successful team in London.

When it comes to trophies, we always give the utmost, regardless of the manager, and now that Maresca will have a chance to manage one of the famous English clubs. But due to Chelsea’s past, you are under continual pressure when you join the club.

As can be observed, when things go wrong, the supporters criticise the board policy and want immediate results from the manager.
