Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella silences Gary Neville with stellar Euro 2024 performance for Spain
According to the Mirror, Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella delivered a performance that served as a perfect reaction to Gary Neville’s pre-match remarks.
On Saturday, Cucurella proved that he is far from a weak link, as his performance so far has only had a positive impact on Spain’s backline.
The former Manchester United man has delivered harsh criticism on Chelsea and Spain’s defender ahead of his country’s opening Euro 2024 match against Croatia. Speaking to ITV before kick-off, he said, “I think he’s one of the reasons we think Spain probably can’t go all the way.”
He spoke about their chances of winning Euro 2024 and suggested that Cucurella is likely to hold his national team back.
The 25-year-old has had his share of struggles at Stamford Bridge during the first season, but he had a much better 2023/24 season after, and his efforts earned him a starting spot for his nation against Croatia.
Cucurella has four senior caps for Spain and was a member of the silver medal-winning under-23 squad at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. He was also a member of the team that reached the semifinals of the 2021 Under-21 European Championships.
Having reached a particular level of game refinement, he has proven himself as one of the most well-known fullbacks because of his aggressive defence, making him a formidable left-back and an outstanding player due to his ability to make decisive tackles.
He has improved a lot since returning from an ankle injury, and considering his current form, he is set to have more chances with the national team to show his credentials and prove that he deserves to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Neville’s remarks had no solid ground and the formidable defender put him to shame with his performance. It is unclear if they’ll win the entire tournament, but Cucurella certainly won’t be held accountable for holding the Spanish team back if they don’t.
