Chelsea want to bring back £19m Burnley star back to Premier League but face Newcastle battle

Chelsea keen to land James Trafford back to the Premier League but face Newcastle battle

Accoreding to talkSport, Chelsea have to battle big teams in order to bring James Trafford back to the Premier League since the £19m Burnley star has piqued the interest of numerous big teams, including Newcastle, following the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship.

According to rumours, Bayern Munich and Liverpool have also joined the race, along with Newcastle and Chelsea, to sign James Trafford. Burnley has put a price tag of roughly £20 million on the 21-year-old goalkeeper following his high demand.

Trafford won the European Under-21 Championships last year, saving a stoppage-time penalty and rebound in the final against Spain, which England won 1-0.

Burnley spent £19 million to recruit Trafford from Manchester City last summer. However, before the season concluded, he lost his position on the squad to Arijanet Muric.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper had a disappointing debut season at Burnley, being dropped for the final ten games of the season and keeping only two clean sheets in 28 Premier League outings.

He gained his first call-up to the England senior squad this season, replacing the injured Sam Johnstone in a friendly against Belgium.

Djordje Petrovic, the Blues’ goalkeeper, played 31 games in his debut season, while former Brighton player Robert Sanchez made 21 appearances but missed much of the season due to injury.

Newcastle, meanwhile, lost their number one, Nick Pope, to a shoulder injury during the season. Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League ensures that Trafford will be sold, not only to avoid financial concerns but also due to the player’s likely desire to continue at the top level, both of which might benefit LFC.

If Kelleher leaves, it creates an opportunity for Trafford to serve as Alisson’s immediate backup at Liverpool, and the demand for a new goalkeeper will rise significantly, leaving Edwards and Hughes to give the most appealing sales argument they can.

Should Trafford be signed by Bayern Munich, Liverpool Newcastle or Chelsea, he will make an immediate comeback to the Premier League.
