Journo talks about the Chelsea star Djordje Petrovic who impressed him after recent season

The reputed journalist Matt Law, in a recent podcast for the London Blue, praises Chelsea star Djordje Petrovic after an impressive season. The 24-year-old might just be the goalkeeper Chelsea has needed all along.

It’s no secret that Chelsea has struggled with goalkeeping since Thibaut Courtois moved to Real Madrid in 2018. After a frantic search for the Belgian’s replacement, the Blues signed custodian Kepa Arrizabalaga for a record-breaking amount. But he could never fully establish himself as the long-term solution at Stamford Bridge.

Later, under the Pochettino era, Roberto Sanchez was established as the new No. 1 of the Blues squad. Sanchez sustained a knee problem in the last season and the manager chose to replace him came Petrovic. Losing their starting goalie would be devastating for any team, but for Chelsea, it turned out to be a godsend.

Signing him last season from New England Revolution for a fee of £14 million, Petrovic’s role was to cover for the Blues’ No. 1 goalie but his gameplay left Chelsea and the football community in pure amazement.

In the recent Premier League season, during the 24-year-old’s 23 key appearances for his club, he managed to maintain five clean sheets and surpassed the No. 1 keeper, Sanchez with his performances.

His outstanding display of class earned him appreciation from the football community. Matt Law said in the London Blue podcast:

“Chelsea are very impressed with Petrovic. They thought Petrovic had a much better season than they were expecting last season, so they’re not going to totally block his path either.”

He might even start as the No.1 next season

Chelsea realises that their No. 2 keeper has performed remarkably in the recent season and they will certainly not be looking to offload him anytime soon. With enough time and experience, Petrovic could undoubtedly turn out to be a wonderful asset for Chelsea.

With all that said, it is still a fact that the goalkeeping situation at Chelsea is a bit downgraded. Indeed, Petrovic managed to perform decently in the recent season but the Blues do need a new keeper soon and with the new manager in charge now, they will most likely search the market for an addition to help him.
