Boost for Chelsea as South American starlet only wants Stamford Bridge transfer despite links to other PL clubs

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with highly-rated Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Boca Juniors starlet Aaron Anselmino ahead of a potential summer swoop.

The Blues’ summer transfer window is slowly starting to take shape. After snapping up Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from rivals Fulham last month, 18-year-old Omari Kellyman completed his switch from Aston Villa on Saturday morning.

Moving forward, the Pensioners don’t appear content with just the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo and are planning to bring in another central defender but of a younger profile. Thus, their interest in Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino, who according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano only wants a move to Stamford Bridge despite interest from other clubs.

“Chelsea have full agreement with Aaron Anselmino on personal terms, he wants Chelsea despite links with other PL clubs. Work in progress to agree on terms with Boca Juniors and get the deal done soon,” Fabrizio Romano tweeted from his official X account.

Having first reached an agreement over personal terms with Anselmino, Chelsea are looking to agree on a fee with Boca Juniors and wrap up a deal as quickly as possible. The West Londoners’ interest in the Argentine defender is part of the club’s recruitment strategy under the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership, which focuses on acquiring young, hungry talents with potential from different parts of the world.

Rated as one of the best young talents from South America, Anselmino also has interest from other clubs which may make negotiating a fee with Boca Juniors tricky for Chelsea. However, the good news is that the centre-back prefers a move to Chelsea over those other interested clubs, which should give us some extra leverage during discussions.

If the Blues get a deal done for Anselmino, new manager Enzo Maresca and our club’s top officials may decide to send him to Ligue 1 affiliate Strasbourg on loan to gain experience in European football. As part of the multi-club ownership model, Strasbourg serves as a vital platform for nurturing young talent and making them ready for first-team action.

South American youngsters such as Andrey Santos and Angelo Gabriel have benefitted from loan spells at the Ligue 1 club, gaining invaluable European experience and continuing their development. Anselmino could follow that same path if Chelsea can agree on a fee with Boca Juniors.

And for a South American talent who may take time to adjust to the fast-paced nature of Premier League football, a loan move to Strasbourg should just be ideal.
