Chelsea confident to recoup several times the initial £13m investment despite the unsuccessful loan spell of Andrey Santos

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are already confident that they will be able to recoup several times the initial £13m invested to buy Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama in January 2023.

However, there is no desire to make him available. Chelsea’s belief in Andrey Santos’ potential has not been diminished in the least by his unsuccessful loan at Forest last season.

The 20-year-old, who was signed from Vasco da Gama for £18m last year, has made a significant improvement in a short period of time.

The Brazilian had a successful pre-season with Chelsea before being loaned out to Nottingham Forest to get first-team experience.

He concluded the season strongly at BlueCo’s sister club, Strasbourg, whose head coach Patrick Vieira is a big fan.

He was named Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Month for March, while he was given Strasbourg’s Player of the Month accolade for April and May. Chelsea were delighted to see him get 831 minutes on the pitch, a huge contrast to what he went through at Nottingham Forest.

Santos had a difficult loan spell at Nottingham Forest

The 20-year-old has choices again this summer, but Chelsea are unlikely to sell him since they feel he has a real chance of being a first-team regular in due time.

Santos departing Chelsea without making a single competitive appearance would have little impact at Stamford Bridge, save for raising concerns about Clearlake and Boehly’s player-trading system.

While there is potential for a successful sale, Andrey Santos is not among Chelsea’s favourite players to unload.

Andrey Santos is not currently a first-team regular, but he has the potential to have a decent chance of cracking the Chelsea first-team under new manager Enzo Maresca, who plans to use the tour to look at loanees and young players.
