Chelsea placed as an 'outside bet' by Chris Waddle to sign Manchester City star cut from his team's Euro 2024 squad
Former Tottenham player Chris Waddle backs Chelsea as an ‘outside bet’ to sign Manchester City star midfielder Jack Grealish amid several clubs keen on securing his services this summer.
The England international forward has had a mixed season in terms of form and injury misfortune, but he helped his team finish the season on the ultimate high, winning the Premier League title yet again.
Grealish has struggled to find the form required at times to maintain his spot in the starting eleven, in addition to facing more competition for the left-sided wing position in Pep Guardiola’s front three. His recent form struggles saw him left out of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
Speaking to Betway (h/t Football London), the former England player backed Chelsea to go for the 28-year-old. He said:
“Chelsea could be an outside bet with Gallagher possibly going, you could see him playing that midfield role. He’d be more effective there. He’s got vision, he can see things and he’s good at give and go.”
Despite his frustrations on and off the pitch and sometimes struggles in his personal life, Grealish managed to make 36 vital appearances for the current Premier League champions across all competitions.
Despite all the links and speculations being made between Chelsea and Grealish, the transfer is a bit unusual, considering the Blues’ past signings. Chelsea’s transfer policy is famous for their young signings, as they mostly sign youngsters who are at the beginning of their careers to secure the club’s long-term growth.
Chelsea’s interest in the 28-year-old seems to have become a bit silent now. Grealish has a lot of promise in his gameplay when he is fully fit and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea make a concrete move for him this summer.
