Could Bulka be back? Chelsea considering repurchasing of promising goalkeeper

Chelsea FC are looking at a potential deal to resign Marcin Bulka in the upcoming summer transfer window, per L’Equipe (via. GFFN).

Marcin Bulka came through the ranks at Chelsea’s prestigious Cobham Academy; however, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 in search of more playing time. His move came with no senior appearances at West London, and it is time that the highly-rated goalkeeper gets his bow at the Bridge. He enjoyed a stint of three years at Cobham between 2016 and 2019, ages 15–18.

New Era, New Keeper?

Chelsea eye homecoming for former academy star Bulka.

The Polish goalkeeper eventually moved to French side OGC Nice, and in his first season as the number one between the woodworkers, he showed his impressive skills, for which he was always highly regarded at Chelsea. He has been integral to OGC Nice’s contribution defensively, as Les Aiglons boasted the best defensive number in the French top tier and the fourth-best in Europe’s top five divisions. They finished the season with only 29 goals conceded, which is four better than French League title winners Paris-Saint-Germain.

His impressive performances garnered rumours around an extension of his stay at Nice; however, he wanted a quadruple rise on his current salary (€55,000 per month) at Allianz Riviera (i.e. €220,000 per month), while his current employers are only offering nearly a triple increase.

Alongside the Blues, Italian giants AC Milan are also looking to sign Marcin Bulka, indicating a competitive market for the promising goalkeeper’s services.

There has been high turnover in the goalkeeping department at Stamford Bridge, and incoming manager Enzo Maresca will be looking to have a ball playing number one as the Blues jump into a new era in West London. The likes of Robert Sanchez as well as Kepa Arrizabalaga have played under managers who prefer to invite pressure with the ball at their feet; however, the new era under Maresca could demand even greater proficiency in this aspect of the game.
