Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson withdrawn from Senegal spot after suffering ankle injury

As per Metro, Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson suffered a sprained ankle during a Senegal match against DR Congo. Jackson was hobbled off in the last minute of the 1-1 draw between both sides.

Senegal will next face Mauritania in their next World Cup qualifier on Sunday evening, but the forward has been withdrawn from the squad. After his replacement, the striker underwent an MRI scan, and the medical team revealed that Jackson had suffered a serious ankle sprain.

This means Jackson could return from national duty and recover ahead of the pre-season, which begins in July. The Blues under a new manager will start their tour in the United States with a game against Wrexham in California on July 24. They will also play Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.

Jackson enjoyed an excellent debut season after his £31.8 million move from Villarreal to Chelsea. He produced 17 goals in his first campaign for the Blues across all competition, and more expectations will be placed on the striker for the next term as he is expected to fight for a starting spot if Chelsea decides to sign a striker.

Given how poorly he opened the season and how many opportunities he missed, it was surprising that Jackson was able to close it out on an upbeat point. But as the former Villarreal player becomes more comfortable in the league, more will be demanded of him in the following campaign.

But the forward will be withdrawn from the squad and now focus on his fitness after spraining his ankle. Medical results reveal it’s a severe injury, so the striker is set to spend most of the off-season building his fitness before the start of the new season. However, his ankle injury shouldn’t take more time to recover; he should be ready to participate in the pre-season tour.

In the coming season, the 22-year-old could have a competition if the club decides to sign a striker. Jackson will have to up his game next season and refine his finishing traits if he wants to provide competition to the Blues’ new striker otherwise he will be second-choice under Maresca.
