Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested Chelsea a striker who boasts 30G/A this season and took his side to Champions League qualification. 26-year-old Artem Dovbyk has been terrific for La Liga side Girona this season and has netted 20 goals in 33 La Liga games.
Now Romano feels he could be an ideal striker for the Blues, who are going into the summer transfer market for a reliable centre-forward before the start of next season. The Blues signed Nicolas Jackson last summer, who has enjoyed a productive spell and has scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season. But the Mauricio Pochettino side could still look for No. 9 with a more clinical touch.
Jackson has been poor in some matches, and his finishing has been the main reason that has led him down. But given that it was his first season, the Blues will hope he transforms his final touch in front of the goal.
Romano, on his Daily Briefing, has revealed the Blues can make a move for Dovbyk, who has a €40 million release clause, as Chelsea were earlier linked with a move for him. He further said:
”Chelsea were linked with a move in January, but nothing came of it; the situation remains open in the summer. As for the player, he’s really open in terms of his next move; he doesn’t have a specific league in mind; it depends on the project, the manager, and what they want to do with him.’’
Dovbyk has been an X-factor in Girona’s qualification for the Champions League, and he is the highest goalscorer in La Liga this season. He has stood out with his performance, and it’s really strange that there isn’t much hype about him and his exploits in this campaign.
Last season, the Ukrainian was an unnamed figure playing for Ukraine’s team, Dnipro-1. Ever since his move to Girona, Dovbyk has come to the fore. He is an Erling Haaland-esque striker who always exploits spaces. One of his top attributes is his physicality and ability to outmuscle and run opponents, even in motion.
His release clause is also affordable, and Chelsea could contemplate a move in the summer. In the summer, there will be a lot of speculation. The Blues were linked with a move for him in January, but things never proceeded further, so it will be interesting to see if Chelsea will target him given that their priority signing is Victor Osimhen.
