John Terry shares photo of Chelsea’s first-ever Champions League win against Bayern Munich
John Terry posted a photo of Didier Drogba’s header on Instagram on the famous night against Bayern Munich when Chelsea finally got their hands on a Champions League trophy for the first time in the club’s history as they cruised to a 3-4 win on penalties.
It was more poetic that the final was at Bayern’s home, and the Blues, who were the underdogs in the game, prevailed on penalties after the Ivorian striker converted the last spot kick to send the Blues into a jubilant mood.
It was Chelsea’s first-ever Champions League trophy as they beat the likes of Napoli, Barcelona, and Benfica in knockout rounds to reach the final under Italian manager Roberto Di Matteo. It was one of the happiest nights for the club, as they finally achieved European glory.
Reminiscing about the day Terry posted on his Instagram a photo of Drogba heading the ball in stoppage time to level the score, with a caption:
‘’On This Day 2012, picture 2 is an unseen image but is a huge part of our history and one of the most important pieces of memorabilia. Before every game, set plays go up on the wall in the dressing room, reminding players of their roles and responsibilities. @didierdrogba scores a goal from his exact position, taking us to penalties. Replying to Terry’s post, Frank Lampard commented, ‘’Can’t believe he nicked it off my head.’’ Well, it seems like in the photo, Drogba was quick to reach and headed the ball into the near post, but had he not reached there, Lampard might have scored a header.
Terry was suspended, thus he was unable to participate in the final game, but his leadership from the stands was evident as the players sacrificed their lives to bring the trophy to London. For Chelsea supporters who had finally seen the team raise the Champions League trophy, it was an exquisite evening.

It was certainly one of the goals of his career because it came in the Champions League final, and it was also an equaliser in the dying minutes to give the Blues a much-needed lifeline in the game as Bayern seemed to be heading to win. Not only did Drogba score an equaliser, he also netted the winning penalty to hand Chelsea their first-ever Champions League trophy in 2012.
