A View From The Bridge

Mauricio Pochettino reveals how long he would like to stay on as Chelsea manager

Mauricio Pochettino hopes to remain at Chelsea for life

Mauricio Pochettino has clarified his future comments after revealing that the Chelsea board will make the final decision on his job at the club as the Blues come from behind to secure a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

Pochettino turned the mood around the club as the Blues’ hopes of securing a European spot continued to strengthen. The 3-2 win against Forest has now seen the Blues having the same points as Newcastle United, but the Magpies are sixth with a big goal difference.

After a long time, Pochettino had plenty of first-team players available as he used all the players, and Reece James also returned from a long-term hamstring injury and had an assist on the winning goal.

After the game, the Argentine was asked about his pre-season comments. (h/t Standard Sport), Pochettino clarified those remarks and told the reporter:

“I never said I was not happy. I never said that. I said maybe I am not happy, but maybe I am happy. But it’s normal, according to the headline. Sometimes there’s too much honesty when I’m talking, but it’s not a problem. I have one more year on my contract. Like I said yesterday, I’m always thinking long-term, thinking that it’s going to be for life here.’’

Now that Chelsea are performing as we expected from them, it’s time to decide whether to stick with Pochettino or find a new manager next season. Many would argue that it took him long enough to find the right balance in the squad, but we cannot entirely blame him for that.

Mauricio Pochettino hopes to take Chelsea to the Europa League next season.

Against Forest, he had most of the players available for the first time, and when you see the second half, the substitutes made an impact when Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, and Reece James came in. They changed the course of the match, took the game to their head, and led the Blues to win.

Once again, the summer will be dramatic. Chelsea’s every move in the hiring process will be evaluated, and it will be interesting to see what they do with Pochettino going forward.
