Mauricio Pochettino provides a coy reply on his Chelsea future
Mauricio Pochettino’s comments on his future seem like he isn’t sure if he has the backing of the board for his next campaign after recent remarks ahead of the Nottingham Forest game on Saturday evening.
The Argentine manager has been full of pressure and criticism since taking over this squad, but now the results have shown that Pochettino might be the right man to lead this team for the next campaign.
The 52-year-old signed a two-year contract with Chelsea, and next season will be his last. However, it’s uncertain if he will continue as the Blues manager in the upcoming campaign, with the board still undecided on his future despite outcomes now seeming to be convincing.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has been asked the same question in his press conferences, and ahead of the Nottingham Forest match, the Argentine faced the same question, (h/t Mirror), and this time he said:
“There are two parties who can make a decision. It is not only because Chelsea is not happy; the owners are not happy; the sporting directors are not happy; maybe we are not happy because we arrived here with some work to do, but in the end, it has not happened what we expected.”
“Maybe we are not happy. I don’t say that I am not happy, but it is always lacking on one side. Maybe the other side says OK, maybe until here’ and we split. It is not a problem. It is not going to be the end of the world.”
His comments make sense because it’s up to the board if they are satisfied with his work this season. One can say that he has done a decent job because managing a club full of inexperienced players ravaged by injuries is never easy. When you give a manager the task of building a squad, it will take years, but our process might have been a little slower. Had there not been so many injuries, we might have been in a better position.
However, it’s still a reasonable result, and we can end the season on a high note given we have three more matches. It would help if you saw from every aspect how Pochettino has done his work and what problems he has faced this season.

He appears to have struck the right mix so that he is capable of bringing out the best in players. Perhaps with the addition of some seasoned players, he will be better equipped for the upcoming campaign and win over more supporters.
