Chelsea will interview Enzo Maresca for a managerial position
Before selecting Mauricio Pochettino to be the team’s next head coach last season, Chelsea conducted lengthy interviews with potential managers to determine whether or not their aspirations suited the club’s project.
The club backed Pochettino with all the support he needed to help the young players mature and, with his pragmatics, expedite the process of club development. However, after the start of the season, it didn’t look like Chelsea had the right man, but as the season progressed, Chelsea showed they had a man who could take care of the team mired in injuries and failing to sustain a winning run.
The Argentine fulfilled the club’s ambitions to secure a European spot next term, and it appeared he would continue for next season, but Chelsea are Chelsea, and in the most surprising news, the club decided to part ways with the 52-year-old manager on Tuesday evening.
As per Matt Law, Pochettino agreed to his exit late on Tuesday morning, following the club’s end-of-season review that started on Monday. And now the club will start with a young and progressive coach in the coming days.
But it still leaves us wondering: What went wrong? Did the board not find Chelsea’s performance under Pochettino compelling? What do you expect from a manager who never had all players available and most of his players were inexperienced and young?
Because it was certainly going to be a long process and he never had a full squad, we saw when the season was coming to an end that he managed to turn things around when he got the chance to have half of the players available.
Poch has made things simpler for whoever comes in next, no matter what happens from here. There’s a rudimentary template to work with and enhance. The young players are getting better and more accustomed to life in the Premier League. They know what’s required of them when they don a Chelsea shirt and know what to anticipate going forward, even though it took some time for them to become consistent with injuries.
As things are beginning to turn around in this project, we’re reaching a critical juncture. If we mess up the following appointment, we won’t be able to get back for years. If we do things correctly, we’ll return to the Champions League the next year.
