Mauricio Pochettino admits complete defeat to Liverpool after 4-1 Chelsea drubbing

Mauricio Pochettino says Liverpool were better than Chelsea in all areas

Mauricio Pochettino has accepted his side’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Liverpool as the Reds ran all over the Argentine’s young Chelsea side, who couldn’t find the answers to the Reds’ questions.

What was more surprising was that they were without their talisman, Mohamed Salah, and still managed to inflict such a heavy defeat on the Blues. The host wasted plenty of chances before Diego Jota finally gave them the lead in 23 minutes.

In his second Premier League start, academy player Conor Bradley opened his Liverpool account, and in the second half, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz piled more misery on the Blues, while Christopher Nkunku scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

Chelsea were clueless; it was mainly because of the defensive errors we made. Benoit Badiashile had a poor night against the Reds and was constantly exploited by Liverpool. After the game, the former Southampton manager accepted the defeat, (h/t Daily Mail) and said:

‘’The performance wasn’t good from us. If we want to match them, we have to compete in a different way. They were more aggressive than us. They were better than us in all areas.”

We were completely dominated by Liverpool and didn’t get a chance to breathe on the pitch. Their metal football was on display yesterday, and our young side couldn’t cope with their pressing. Besides that, we made many individual mistakes, mainly in defence, as Badiashile was poor and couldn’t come and give Liverpool attack answers.

Pochettino suffered the most humiliating defeat to Liverpool.

We need to acknowledge this defeat and understand where we made so many mistakes that led to us conceding four goals. Liverpool showed their true selves, and this is what happens when you play against a squad brimming with experienced players.

We have a long season ahead of us, so players will need to own up to their shortcomings and take lessons from them. Hopefully, we can move on and refocus on the next game.
