Chelsea among clubs eyeing a move for 16-year-old Real Madrid target with £47m clause

Chelsea have scouted Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian at the FIFA U17 World Cup

Chelsea have joined other clubs for young Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian, who plays for Palmeiras. According to TeamTalk, (h/t Manchester Evening), Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are also keen on acquiring his services.

The 16-year-old has been nicknamed ‘Messinho’ because of his playing style. The teenager is currently playing for Palmeiras and has been scouted by plenty of European clubs following his recent display at the Under-17 World Cup.

His signing could be affordable given his £47 million release clause in his contract. Chelsea have signed several Brazilian youngsters, such as Andrey Santos, Angelo Gabriel, and Deivid Washington.

Their new brand of investing in young players under Todd Boehly has seen them acquire some highly rated youngsters, and the club will continue to do so. Chelsea have implemented a new policy under Boehly where they won’t sign players over 25, and their main focus is to locate talented young players.

Who is Estevao Willian?

In 2017, Willian started playing football at the Cruzeiro youth level. Because of his comparable playing style to Messi, he was nicknamed Messinho from a young age. He earned a professional contract with Nike, becoming the youngest Brazilian to do so, as a result of his sustained growth and talent, which attracted the attention of major brands.

He signed a trainee deal at Palmeiras Youth Academy in 2021, and he assisted the team in winning multiple trophies for the U17 squad. At just sixteen, his performance won him a spot on the senior team.

However, he attracted the attention of my European powerhouses, including Chelsea, at the FIFA U17 World Cup. Estevao, who is only 16 years old, will continue his development with the Brazilian team unless a club makes a bid for him. Given his talent, Chelsea will be monitoring his progress. There is already plenty of competition, and it will be interesting to see which club secures his services.
