Chelsea captain Ben Chilwell sends birthday wish to Wesely Fofana
Ben Chilwell has sent a heartwarming message to teammate Wesley Fofana as both Chelsea stars recover from their respective injuries.
The Frenchman hasn’t appeared on the field since playing in France’s Euro 2024 qualifying group clash against Gibraltar and could be out for the entire season. It is a massive blow for the Blues who continue to struggle with consistency.
Fofana has been blighted with injuries since his Leicester days, where he suffered various injuries, including a broken leg. Before the start of the new Chelsea season, the centre-back suffered an ACL knock, which will keep him out for the entire campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino couldn’t even use the centre-back for pre-season as Fofana was ruled out for a long period before he flew to the USA.
Meanwhile, Chilwell is also enduring another injury-ridden season. The left-back sustained a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup third round against Brighton & Hove Albion and is expected to remain out until February.
But the left-back sent a heartfelt message and a birthday wish to his teammate, who is continuing his recovery. (h/t Football.London), The message was read as follows:
“Mon gar, bon anniversaire [my boy, happy birthday],” he wrote alongside an image of the pair celebrating last season. “We can’t wait to have you back, frere [brother] [blue heart emoji].”
Chilwell and Fofana have been unlucky with injuries.
Fofana has been unlucky with injuries the last few seasons and has struggled to continue the development of his prodigious talent. We may anticipate that Fofana may return before the end of the upcoming season to play in a few games because ACL injuries are highly serious and require an extended period to heal.
The same applies for Chilwell, who also picked up an injury this term and during the previous campaign. We should expect the two of them to remain absent for an extended period of time as both are not returning to action anytime soon.

The good thing is that we have enough depth in the squad to cover their areas. Against Sheffield, Mauricio Pochettino used all four centre-backs, and this could be the same lineup unless one of them returns.
