“Didn’t make me happy”- 27-year-old says he wasn’t used by Chelsea in his natural position before £14m exit

Ruben Loftus-Cheek says he wasn’t deployed in his natural position at Chelsea

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has professed he didn’t like being played in different roles at Chelsea after the midfielder joined AC Milan for £14million in the summer window.

Throughout his time at Chelsea, Chelsea the midfielder endured inconsistent form and never hit his ceiling. leaving the club seemed like the best possible way to revive his career. He was among six midfielders who left the club, including Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and others

Under different managers, he was deployed in a variety of positions to fill in for other players’ absences. The (h/t Football.London) as he told Dazn:

“I’ve played in many roles throughout my career. In the last two years (at Chelsea), I’ve mostly been in a defensive position, and it wasn’t natural for me. I’ve always liked having the ball at my feet, having the freedom to create, to be decisive.

I couldn’t do that in the last two seasons; that way of playing didn’t make me happy. Now, I play in a position where I have more freedom, so I feel good.”

It is undeniable that you cannot always provide your best effort when you are placed in unfamiliar circumstances because it is not your natural position. In the previous two seasons at Chelsea, he was primarily used as a substitute and didn’t get enough playing time.
