“Give five or six games! See”- Pundit advises Chelsea boss on how best to deploy struggling star

Danny Murphy feels Chelsea should use Mykhaylo Mudryk on the wings instead of Ben Chilwell

Former Premier League star Danny Murphy has urged Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino that he start using Mykhaylo Mudryk on the wings instead of Ben Chilwell after the international break.

Pochettino has started Chilwell as a left-winger with Levi Colwill functioning as a hybrid between centre-back and full-back. But this has eked out negligible results for the Blues so far. The Blues are currently in 12th place and will next face Bournemouth on September 17. Pochettino will be hoping to turn things around once the international break ends.

There has been a lack of creativity in Chelsea’s game, which has affected us in front of goal. In fact we have scored more than once in only one of our four Premier League games so far.

Mykhaylo Mudryk, in contrast, has featured for just 66 minutes this season and is struggling to build up confidence because he has largely been used during injury time. His lack of confidence is clear as he appears to be a shadow of the player he was at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Murphy feels the Argentine manager should use the Ukrainian forward on the wings instead of vice-captain Chilwell, (h/t Football.London), as he said:

“[Chelsea] need a left-winger to play instead of where Ben Chilwell is playing because he’s a left-back. Give Mykhailo Mudryk five or six games! See.”

Chilwell hasn’t been as productive on the wings in recent games, and Pochettino might want to modify his formation after the international break because we were only able to defeat Luton Town in the league so far this season

Despite showing good possession, we still need to score goals and obviously have the players do it. Mudryk undoubtedly has a lot of talent, so perhaps it’s time to employ him and let him do his thing without worrying about mistakes.

Pochettino should now think about tweaking his tactics and returning to his pre-season method, where we exhibited attractive football. Sending Mudryk in in the 80th or 90th minute will have little effect on the game, especially given his lack of confidence at this moment in time.
