Visa application delays the medical procedure of Djordje Petrovic ahead of his prospective Chelsea move
As per a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, there is a delay in medical tests for goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic ahead of his Chelsea move due to a Visa application.
It was revealed a couple of days ago that the Blues have agreed a €16m deal with MLS side New England Revolution to sign the Serbian international Petrovic. The 23-year-old’s medical is now booked for Thursday and Friday. It feels like he could announced as the new Chelsea player by this weekend or early next week at the latest.
Barring any visa complications, if Petrovic completes his medical tests without any issues, Chelsea would have an important signing in the goalkeeping department following the departure of Kepa Arrizabalaga to Real Madrid.
Robert Sanchez, who himself arrived at the club a few days ago, is currently the number one keeper in the squad. Marcus Bettinelli is the backup but he is still recovering from an injury. Moreover, he has been more of a third-choice stopper in this team.
Add all those up, and it makes the Petrovic signing crucial. As of now, Chelsea are a Sanchez injury away from fielding an inexperienced keeper. As if there weren’t other problems in the squad, Mauricio Pochettino would not want this to add up.
Petrovic, 23, is an experienced keeper who had a great time at New England before agreeing on this move. He has senior appearances for the Serbian national team behind him as well.

He is an excellent shot-stopper who likes to command his box from crosses and set-pieces. He can still improve when asked to pass out from the back. There is time to perfect that under the tutelage of Chelsea’s goalkeeping coaches and Pochettino.
