Carney Chukwuemeka has had a scan on his knee with concerns that he has picked up a MCL injury
According to Football London, there are initial concerns that young Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has picked up a MCL injury that could rule him out for a few weeks.
After playing well in the first half of the West Ham United game on Sunday, Chukwuemeka held his knee late in the half and could not continue. He was eventually replaced by Mykhaylo Mudryk. Scans took place on Monday.
It was such a shame seeing the former Aston Villa man leave the field in pain following another encouraging performance. He scored the equaliser by shifting the ball to his right foot before rifling a shot into the far corner.
Chukwuemeka was excellent against Liverpool last Sunday while playing in the number 10 role behind the striker Nicolas Jackson. Chelsea have already lost a player of that position before the start of this season – Christopher Nkunku.
Hence, if the MCL concerns are true, we might see Mauricio Pochettino having to work extremely hard to find a player who can play there and have a similar sort of impact.
Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher can play there, but are they natural in that position? We might get to know very soon unless Chelsea make a new signing.
The Blues are interested in acquiring the services of Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson. The Welsh international is a natural attacking midfielder who can also play on the wing.
One can wonder if the Chukwuemeka injury would force the club to expedite their process to sign Johnson. They are ready to offer Andrey Santos on loan to Forest to make that deal happen as well.

Regardless of all that, it would be a bummer to see the 19-year-old spend time off the field due to an injury just as when he was settling in the Chelsea shirt.
