“Win the Premier League”- Chelsea superstar sets clear goal for next season

Enzo Fernandez claims Chelsea will hope to contend for the Premier League next season

Enzo Fernandez has claimed that there have been substantial changes at the club since Mauricio Pochettino took charge and that Chelsea will attempt to win the Premier League next season.

Fernandez arrived at Chelsea on the deadline day of the winter transfer window for a record fee of £105 million from Benfica and took no time to show his worth on the pitch as he registered two assists last season, as the club finished 12th in the Premier League.

More than the goals and assists, it was the Argentine’s composure, passing skills and creativity that impressed fans. During that season, the west Londoners made three managerial changes and spent an exorbitant amount in both transfer windows, which saw the squad become overcrowded.

The Blues appointed Pochettino to fix their disjointed club and turn the team into an elite level as they prepare for the new Premier League season. So far, the Blues have impressed in pre-season games under the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager, as they haven’t lost any of their pre-season games and will next play Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night.

Midfielder Fernandez professed conviction under Pochettino and stated that the team would like to win the Premier League, (h/t Mirror) he told in an interview with Bleacher Report,

“We want to be an aggressive team, a team that attacks and defends well, that goes into every game to win it, whoever we’re playing against, and that looks to dominate every game we’re in. And obviously we want to try to win the Premier League; that’s our goal this year. As well as that, I think the cups in England start in January, but the main aim this year is to win the Premier League.”

For now, our main objective is to complete the upcoming season in the top four at the very least but we will only be able to assess how far we have come when we play Liverpool on 13th August.

With no European football, we can focus on domestic competitions completely. We have shown in the past that at Chelsea, a bad season doesn’t necessarily mean that the club takes time to recover.

We finished 10th in the 2015-16 season and won the league title in the following campaign. For now, we lack a top-notch defensive midfielder, but if we add one it will give the team balance to content for all fronts.

What Fernandez has said could be realistic but it might be difficult to win the Premier League with the competition around us. The aim in SW6 should always to be aim for the very top but fans have to be realistic and understand that a top-four finish would be a good, realistic aim to keep.
