Bayern Munich have opened talks with Chelsea to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga following the departure of Yann Sommer to Inter Milan. Former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has encouraged the Bavarians to sign the Spaniard this summer.
According to Sport1, (h/t Express) Bayern have started initial talks with the West Londoners as they look for a summer addition in goal. This as the legendary Manuel Neuer is yet to return to action after breaking his leg during a ski trip last December.
It is also understood that former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has personally encouraged the club to acquire the 28-year-old. The Spanish custodian toiled at times in Blue and is as things stand out number one goalkeeper at this moment in time.
The Bavarians were also keen on signing Brentford shot-stopper David Raya, but the Spaniard has agreed to Arsenal, and now they have shifted their focus to Kepa. However, during his time under Tuchel, Kepa enjoyed a sort of resurgence that has admittedly not yet reached the expected levels.
After Edouard Mendy’s exit, Kepa is now seen as the starting goalkeeper next season under Mauricio Pochettino. Although, the Blues have also signed Robert Sanchez, who will compete with former Athletic Bilbao star for the first team spot.
Selling Kepa for a decent fee would be a welcome move should Sanchez prove his worth. While the former Brighton star might not be the best goalkeeper in the league, what we need is someone who is consistent and can deliver regular performances. It cost us a bomb to land Kepa but his time at Stamford Bridge has been a dire disappointment.
In order to disprove his detractors next season, Kepa must perform at the top of his craft. But if Bayern makes a good offer for him, we should think about selling him. After all, it is not like he hasn’t been given enough opportunities to prove himself.
