Premier League reject lucrative Chelsea sponsorship proposal

Premier League reject Chelsea FC’s request to sign Paramount Plus as their next sponsor

The Premier League have rejected Chelsea’s appeal to make streaming company Paramount Plus their next sponsor for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

As per the Daily Mail, (h/t Mirror) the Premier League have reason to reject Chelsea’s request to make Paramount Plus their sponsor as they believe it is in violation of competition rules.

Chelsea were in talks with an American subscription streaming giant but it has been a no-go. The English top flight rejected the proposal because it would disrupt the league’s broadcast sponsors.

The Blues are also in talks with betting company Stake.com, despite the league’s ban on gambling sponsors. Clearly, we are not taking the easy way out when it comes to replacing Three.m

The league announced that the teams are not allowed to wear any betting sponsor on their jerseys starting in the 2026–27 season. They released a statement which read as:

“Premier League clubs have today collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising.”

“The announcement follows an extensive consultation involving the League, its clubs, and the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport as part of the Government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation.”

Just let’s hope Todd Boehly and the company don’t take any chances with the shirt sponsor since they might have significant repercussions and could put the club in hot water.

Now that our contract with our shirt sponsor Three has ended, we should have a sponsor who is willing to shell the cash to gain the fortune of being displayed on our jersey.

It is acceptable that the squad needs a lucrative sponsor, but we ought to look for a better, legal sponsor rather than having live-streaming or gambling organisations sponsor the team in the coming season.
