Nicolas Jackson is travelling to London to have his medical done ahead of the Chelsea move

As per Spanish outlet Diario AS (h/t Football.London), Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson will have his medical done in London this week as the move to Chelsea edges closer.

A few days ago, it was revealed that the Senegal international has agreed on personal terms with the Blues. He has a release clause of €35m which will be paid by the West London club.

The 21-year-old is set to sign a five-year contract with Chelsea. An option to extend that by a year will be there. Although not a big name in the European circuit yet, it is good to know that the club is working towards bolstering a weak part of the squad in the summer window.

Since the departure of Diego Costa more than five years ago, the Blues have struggled for goals from their number nine. The likes of Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain and more recently Romelu Lukaku were signed for big money, but none of them could deliver in a blue shirt.

Jackson, in his first senior season at Villarreal, scored 13 goals in 38 appearances (2121 minutes). Considering the minute he played, those goal returns are more than decent in a team that does not create chances for fun.

New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino likes to operate with an orthodox number nine rather than playing with a false nine and spreading the goals out.

During his successful stint at Tottenham, the Argentine had Harry Kane who would do the bulk of the scoring, ably supported by the likes of Dele Alli or Christian Eriksen or Heung-min Son.

Although Jackson is no Kane at the moment, he has the qualities to become one of the better centre-forwards in years to come.
