Manchester United star Luke Shaw has admitted that he is ‘tapping up” his England teammate and Chelsea star Mason Mount to join the Red Devils in the ongoing summer transfer window/
Shaw is with England for their international matches and has been speaking with his teammates about the transfer window. With both Chelsea and Man United expected to be busy this window, we could be in for a crazy time.
Mason Mount, linked with a move to United, has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils. More so, Erik Ten Hag’s side also saw their opening bid rejected by Chelsea.
The Blues could lose the 24-year-old if they accept United’s second bid, as they don’t want him to leave for nothing in 2024 when his contract expires. The Old Trafford outfit is expected to submit another bid for the England international, and it remains to be seen how the Blues respond.
When asked if he was tapping up his England teammates to join United, (h/t Metro), Shaw jokingly admitted that he has held conversations with Mount. However, given that the Red Devils are really interested, there could be a sliver of truth in the United ace’s words.
‘’Yeah, obviously he’s not here. I think it’s all just a bit of banter, really; obviously, we have a joke and a laugh about it.”
‘’I am not too sure what goes on behind the scenes; it’s to do with the club, really. But of course, when we’re here and together, we have a joke about it, but like I said, I don’t know too much about what’s going on.’’
We have no idea what really transpires behind the scenes. While others may attempt to persuade the player to join their team, the club ultimately decides whether or not Mount can leave and on what terms.
Considering Mount is not with his England teammates for international matches, Shaw will have little direct exposure to him this time around. While the 24-year-old is well within his rights to ask for an exit, Chelsea should not entertain it unless another club pays us what we want.
