Former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger stated that if Kai Havertz joins Real Madrid, he would be pleased to play with his German teammate once more at the club level.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Los Blancos, but it’s now thought the deal is off because Madrid won’t match his asking price.
In the meantime, Chelsea are also ready to sell the 23-year-old forward if a fair offer is made, and the former Bayern Leverkusen player is also open to a move. Makes sense, given his struggles in west London.
This season, the former Bayern Leverkusen midfielder endured a poor season playing as a striker and scored only seven goals in 35 Premier League games.
Rudiger, who had a great experience at Chelsea, joined a Spanish club this season on a free transfer, and he has stated that he is pleased to be reuniting with former teammate Havertz.
The German centre-back said in a statement to Spanish outlet Diario AS:
“I would be happy to play with Havertz again at club level. Unfortunately, I cannot say much about it because, on the subject of transfers, my word is secondary. It’s the club’s decision.”
It was upsetting to see Rudiger depart for free last summer after spending a wonderful time at Stamford Bridge, where he also helped us win the UEFA Champions League title. We shouldn’t do the same with Havertz and let him go for free in the future.
However, as of right now, it doesn’t appear that the purchase will go through because Real Madrid are unwilling to pay his asking price; hence, there is no genuine agreement.
Havertz possesses brilliant attributes but he has only had moderate success throughout his three years at Chelsea. Maybe Mauricio Pochettino can help him find his rhythm again the next season if he remains at the club. It is important that we find his best position and make sure he is comfortable playing there.
He is clearly not a No. 9 and we have to make sure we get in a world-class striker for that role. Havertz can excel in a role playing just behind the striker, as he did at Leverkusen.
