Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku, who was on loan at Inter Milan last season, and AC Milan are not in talks over a potential move in the ongoing transfer window.
The Belgium international has ties with the Rossoneri’s bitter rivals. After spending two years at the Nerazzurri, the Blues signed the striker.
However, after an underwhelming year at the Stamford Bridge side, the 30-year-old made his way back to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side last summer.
As things stand, Chelsea are willing to listen to firm offers from interested parties Lukaku. The Belgian has had offers from Saudi Arabia. However, he is interested in staying in Europe. Speaking exclusively to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the striker’s lawyer Sebastien Ledure, dismissed links to AC Milan.
“No talks ongoing with AC Milan. Romelu wants to stay in Europe; confirmed this by not joining Saudi now. Chelsea position: interested clubs have to present a firm offer. Inter have the ball in their court.”
The 30-year-old’s first stint in Italy was impressive, being prolific for Inter. However, last season he struggled to get going at the Nerazzurri and injuries hampered the forward as well.
But having Lukaku at Chelsea next season is not a wise option. Mauricio Pochettino will take charge of a new era at the Stamford Bridge side. In the past, the Belgian has not done enough to warrant a place in the team.
However, we evidently still need to bolster our forward line. Finding the back of the net has been an issue for the Blues for some time now.
In the 2022/23 campaign, Kai Havertz led our line on most occasions. The German national is set to join Arsenal. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not turned out to be a great signing for us either.
Will Pochettino opt to work with Lukaku if Chelsea are unable to find a solution for his future? Only time will tell. The 30-year-old looks to be out of favour at the West London club. Hopefully, we will be able to part ways with him on a permanent basis in the coming weeks.
