Newcastle eyeing summer deal for Chelsea midfielder amidst expected clear out

Newcastle United are keen on signing Chelsea star Conor Gallagher

Newcastle United are expected to make an effort to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher ahead of next season, (h/t Daily Mail) as they look to add more experience to their midfield.

Gallagher is also anticipated to be a part of the Blues’ squad clear out. Under the previous managers, the 23-year-old played little, but under Frank Lampard, he has been a regular starter, even though Chelsea are open to offers.

The England international returned from an impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace last summer. However, it has not really helped him stake a regular spot in the Blues XI this season.

The Magpies are now in third place and, if they win the remaining games, might participate in the Champions League. They have performed admirably this year and may present Gallagher with a chance to resurrect his career.

The 23-year-old’s exit might also help Chelsea acquire further players because they will need to unload players in order to balance their payroll for the upcoming season. Deploying him alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton will hand the Magpies a proper engine in midfield.

Mauricio Pochettino, who has agreed to terms to become the next permanent manager of the Blues, will be hired by Chelsea ahead of the 2023–24 season. He has a way with youth and it remains to be seen if he will veto Gallagher’s exit.

If he joins Newcastle, Gallagher may begin his new career there. He is a terrific player but still certainly lacks functionality, but he is just 23 years old and will undoubtedly get better with time.

He is anticipated to be part of the roster purge, so joining the Magpies might provide him with more playing time and allow him to play in the Champions League if Toon Army manages to make the cut for the competition next year.

More Chelsea News:

Gallagher would be wise to take Newcastle into consideration, considering that his transfer will also help us make way for the acquisition of a new holding midfielder for the upcoming season.
