Chelsea reiterate stance that former Bayern Munich manager was never their first-choice target

Chelsea have rejected Julian Nagelsmann’s agent Volker Struth’s scathing views on the club

Chelsea have disputed this assertion of Julian Nagelsmann ‘s agent Volker Struth, who said that his client never intended to coach the Blues.

According to the Athletic, (h/t Metro), the Blues disregarded Struth’s opinions and stated that Mauricio Pochettino was their top choice to lead the team.

Nagelsmann was formerly a strong contender to lead Chelsea, but he declined the opportunity despite going through a couple of rounds of interviews. At least that is what is being said in the media.

However, he thought the club was in dire straits and that his next initiative should be “on solid ground.” But it is seemingly known that the Blues have never preferred having the former Bayern Munich manager lead their team.

Meanwhile, the former RB Leipzig representative said it was Naglesmann was pulled out of the running:

‘‘I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call [after Nagelsmann’s dismissal at Bayern Munich]. There were some phone conversations. It was the right decision (by Nagelsmann) not to go there. It’s a club in troubled waters at the moment.”

‘’And their transfer policy, spending a few hundred million euros, has raised expectations that need to be met. There were also some other issues. He was their number one choice; that was our information. I believe it would have happened if he had wanted it.’’

We don’t know what’s exactly going on behind the scenes, but that is perhaps for the club and Nagelsmann to know. It doesn’t matter now because he doesn’t seem to be coming here. This just seems like a war of egos now – who rejected who first.

We should be focused on the man that is about to come in – Pochettino. The Argentine is more experienced and has an idea of how the Premier League functions. He built two great teams here (Southampton, Spurs).

As for Nagelsmann, let’s see where he goes. It would be a huge surprise if a manager of his caliber and pedigree remains in the market for too long.
