Juventus considering a summer move for 31-year-old Chelsea star

Juventus are interested in signing Chelsea centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly

Juventus are thought to be interested in acquiring Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window, who has failed to make a difference at Chelsea.

After failing to secure the centre-back last season, (h/t Gazzetta dello Sport) Juventus are going to try again to sign the Senegal international this summer.

As Chelsea prepare to trim their roster in the summer, Koulibaly, who has battled to establish himself since joining the team, is one of the defenders who could depart. The 31-year-old is highly regarded by Massimiliano Allegri, who would want to see the Old Lady sign him in the summer transfer window.

However, he has already played in the Italian league when playing for Napoli, so it won’t be a different league to adjust to for him. He was one of Gli Azzurri‘s most important players and came to SW6 amid much hype.

With three years left on his contract, Koulibaly has made direct contributions to three goals in 31 games across all tournaments during the inaugural campaign at Chelsea.

However, his season could be over considering that he has been ruled out due to a thigh injury he sustained in our 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal. He has failed to provide surety at the back for us.

It won’t be a surprise if Koulibaly will not play for Chelsea next season given his lack of impact at the club and the possibility that he may be traded to Juventus looks intriguing – one that fans may not be averse to.

Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, and Benoît Badiashile are already on the team and could be honed to become regular first-team stars. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen’s departures last summer left a huge void to be filled in our defence, and Koulibaly was expected to fill it to some extent.

More Chelsea News:

Since Thiago Silva only has a few more seasons remaining with the club, it will be difficult to predict if the former Napoli defender will go or not. It could come down to what our next manager may want. He will turn 32 in June and while that isn’t very old, we could very well be witnessing the decline of one of this era’s finest centre-backs.

If he does leave, there is no question that Chelsea should go out and find a new centre-back to replace him. We can’t afford to trim down our first-team depth in central defence.
