According to sources, Julian Nagelsmann removed himself from consideration for the Chelsea management position owing to reservations about Chelsea’s hiring procedure.
After making an excellent first impression on the club’s board during initial conversations, (h/t Daily Mail) the former Bayern Munich manager was given the notion that he would be Chelsea’s next manager.
A series of meetings and rumours that other managers, like Mauricio Pochettino and Vincent Kompany, were being taken into account, though, caused uneasiness to grow.
The former head coach of RB Leipzig was then pulled off Chelsea’s list of potential managers. Pochettino is currently expected to be the Blues’ manager in West London for the upcoming campaign.
Pochettino is believed to have made an impression on the board and Todd Boehly, who is moving forward with further discussions. The Argentine manager is also thought to be leading the battle to succeed Graham Potter as Chelsea’s manager.
The Blues are now in the bottom half of the standings, and Frank Lampard has been named as the team’s temporary coach for the end of the campaign.
They were recently eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid, and their season is certainly over with only seven games remaining.
Chelsea would want to go through a comprehensive process before selecting a manager because they don’t want to repeat the error they made with the selection of Graham Potter.
Nagelsmann may be a tactful manager, but he isn’t among the best in Europe right now, having only won the Bundesliga and Super Cup with Bayern Munich. He is young and building his reputation right now. He would be a good option for many teams but it just doesn’t seem like a right fit for Chelsea, who would benefit from a manager with experience in the Premier League.
His concerns about the Blues’ recruitment process would also make sense. It has been a dodgy approach from us when it comes to signing players too, and the January transfer window saw us sign a number of players of varied age groups and positions which didn’t seem to strengthen the team in the present.
