As no more conversations are anticipated to occur, Luis Enrique has been designated as an outsider for the Chelsea job, making Julian Nagelsmann the current front-runner to coach the club.
The Spaniard, who won the treble with Barcelona in the 2014-15 season, has been out of job since leaving the Spanish national team following their 2022 FIFA World Cup exit.
The Telegraph reports, (Subscription needed), (h/t Football.London) that Enrique is not one of the front-runners for the job and that there are presently no plans for additional discussions between the two sides.
And following their initial face-to-face discussions, Chelsea are reportedly already organising another round of negotiations with the 35-year-old former RB Leipzig boss.
Nagelsmann is now running as the favourite to coach the Blues next season after the former Barcelona manager listed as an outsider. Chelsea considers the German manager who was fired by Bayern Munich this season as a potential option to lead the Blues next season.
Graham Potter’s replacement at Chelsea, who selected Frank Lampard as temporary manager, is being sought. However, the Blues have lost four straight games under the former player for the first time since 1993.
As a result of Real Madrid’s quarterfinal Champions League victory over the Blues, the team’s season came to an end. They are now in 11th place in the Premier League and will undoubtedly not participate in the Champions League the following season.
Given that Enrique is not a favourite candidate, Nagelsmann is a capable manager who can guide Chelsea’s young team, as evidenced by Jamal Musiala, Christopher Nkunku, Timo Werner, and Marcel Sabitzer’s success under the German manager.
Nagelsmann is a terrific coach who can establish close relationships with his players, and his strategies could work successfully for Chelsea because of the ease with which players can adapt to his system. Moreover, he will have a young team here – one that has a significant age difference to unequivocally respect Nagelsmann’s seniority and authority.
However, we must also pay attention to his demands if we want the club to succeed under him. It is imperative he is given the keys to the decision-making processes when it comes to buying and selling players. Otherwise, there won’t be a point of hiring an expert manager if we don’t fully utilise their expertise.
