Report: Chelsea legend set for second-innings at Stamford Bridge

Frank Lampard is set to take his first training session as interim manager of Chelsea

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard will serve as the club’s temporary manager till the end of the current campaign. He will preside over the team’s first training session before their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on April 8, according to the Telegraph.

The West London team and Lampard have struck an agreement in principle, and the 44-year-old is expected to take over until the club names a permanent manager before the end of the current campaign.

Lampard, who has previously led the team, will want to end the campaign strongly. After the Wolves game, the team will play Real Madrid in the opening leg of the Champions League quarterfinal on April 12.

The former Chelsea player will be managing the club for the second time. During his previous tenure, he oversaw 84 games and won 44 of them before being fired by mutual consent.

Several managers have been linked to Chelsea, but the club is still considering its options. Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann are still the front-runners, but it now seems the decision won’t be made until after the current season, with Lampard expected to fill the position through the end of the current one.

Todd Boehly should know that he cannot make another poor choice, so it looks like the club wants to explore their options thoroughly. For now, Lampard has a huge task on his hands to salvage what he can from a disappointing campaign.

With Lampard in charge, there is optimism that he can improve the locker room and inspire the team after Graham Potter’s tenure proved a complete disaster. Lampard has excellent relationships with many other players, which helps to create a positive environment.

More Chelsea News:

He is aware of the risks involved in leading a fractured team of young players who have had limited opportunities to progress. Lampard’s reputation has also taken a beating following the exceedingly poor spell in charge of Everton. He now has the opportunity to rekindle his reputation at the place where he is seen as a legend.
