Mason Mount could leave Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window and according to Danny Murphy, he would be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad
Only one year remains on his contract at the Bridge, and thus far no agreement has been reached regarding contract discussions.
Additionally, Mount, 24, has played less after making a full recovery from his injury; under interim manager Frank Lampard, he has mostly been used as a substitute. The youngster made a name for himself at the senior level under Lampard and it remains to be seen if the connection will have him firing all cylinders again.
It is also known that Liverpool may be able to secure an agreement for the Blues academy graduate by utilising Chelsea’s FFP current position. Also, we would be losing a real talent who can be an asset for years to come.
The English international joining Liverpool, according to a former midfielder for Liverpool, will be a beneficial addition to Jurgen Klopp’s roster. Speaking to TalkSPORT, (h/t Mirror), Murphy believes that Mount will be one of them to leave the club in the summer as Chelsea will trim down their squad for the upcoming season:
“Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] will go; [James] Milner will go; [Naby] Keita will go. Mount would be good value because he’s got a year left. You’re not going to have to pay silly money for him.”
“Their next transfer window is massive. They need a new centre forward and then need to clear out some players. But one of the players who’s supposed to be going is Mason Mount; he’s one of their best players. That can’t happen in my opinion.”
Chelsea will almost definitely offload the majority of their fringe players to balance the books. With no UEFA Champions League money coming in, we will have to be a tad stingy when it comes to finances.
Meanwhile, it wouldn’t be a smart idea to sell Mount since he is still one of the bright players in our roster. We shouldn’t underestimate his performance because of a single season. Marcus Rashford too went through a troubled campaign last time around but has now rediscovered his mojo. There is no reason why Mount can not do the same.
And Jurgen Klopp certainly admires the 24-year-old and believes he can sort out his midfield issues if Mount decides to leave the Blues in the summer. Next season, the team will have a new manager, and who knows? Mount could flourish under him, so selling him should only be entertained should he fail to pen ane extension this summer.
