German insurance giants in the fray to land Chelsea sponsorship deal

Chelsea are considering making Allianz their next shirt sponsor

Premier League giants Chelsea are thinking about signing a sponsorship deal with German insurance company Allianz as their new shirt sponsor. Their current deal with telecommunications company Three, is set to expire at the end of the season.

According to Sky News, (h/t Daily Mail), Allianz is one of many corporations in talks with the club. Officials at Chelsea are hopeful a contract can be reached within the next six weeks.

It’s also known that the side is not expected to renew its shirt sponsorship with Three for the upcoming campaign. After significant expenditure on signings since their purchase of the club last year, Todd Boehly is aiming to obtain a more financially appealing contract now that the season is almost finished. Chelsea will not play in European competition next season and will need to be financially prudent.

And it’s estimated that Chelsea’s current three-year contract is worth £40 million every season, or £120 million overall. Additionally, Allianz already sponsors two significant teams, including Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Since taking over as Chelsea’s owner, Boehly has made numerous adjustments at Chelsea and are hoping to land a deal that is more advantageous than their current arrangement with the mobile telecoms company.

However, despite the American businessman spending a significant amount during the last two transfer windows, the Blues’ performance has been humiliating, and they are currently sitting in 11th place.

Since we have already spent a sizable sum of money since taking over Boehly, we will need to be very careful with our spending. We also need to be careful not to violate the Financial Fair Play rules, which could lead to various penalties.

Furthermore, Allianz appears to be a respectable sponsorship given that Juventus and Bayern Munich have long-standing relationships with their sponsors, and it will also benefit us financially more than our present jersey sponsor.

We can do with all the help we can get. Without Champions League football, our hand in negotiations is far from strong.
