With the exception of La Liga rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona, Atletico Madrid are willing to sell Joao Felix, who is currently on loan to Chelsea, to any team in Europe.
Atletico Madrid spent a record-breaking €127 million to sign Felix from Benfica to replace Antoine Griezmann, (h/t Marca) who had departed for Barcelona.
The 23-year-old, who occasionally displayed his talent but was never reliable, failed to leave his mark on the Spanish team. The Portuguese player, who was loaned to Chelsea until the end of the season after failing to make an impression, is now being looked at for sale by Atletico Madrid.
Although Felix has so far made a respectable impression at Chelsea, the Blues are interested in signing him but feel that the price set by the Spanish club is too high.
Apparently, Atletico fear that Chelsea won’t make a permanent purchase because of his sloppy form in West London. And this may result in the 23-year-old returning to Atletico, though it is unlikely that the player would wish to do so given their spat with Diego Simeone.
However, the team is prepared to let him go and will consider any offers—aside from those from rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Given how thoroughly their rival clubs have conquered La Liga, it is clear that Atletico do not want to sell Felix to them. La Liga has been dominated by Barcelona and Real Madrid, while Atletico Madrid have won the title just once in the past five years. And if Felix joins either of them, he’ll unquestionably strengthen their offensive lines.
While at Chelsea, he has performed admirably. He may not have found his finishing touch yet but the way he dribbles with the ball in the final third and creates chances for others, the Portuguese forward is clearly a menace that opposition defenders hate playing against.
It’s still unclear how his move will turn out because there are still games left to play and Felix still has the power to convince the club to pursue his signing. But the move has to make sense financially given our recent spending under Todd Boehly’s ownership and the need for new signings all over the pitch.
Given they bought him for such a massive sum, one can expect Los Colchoneros to quote a massive sum. Calciomercatoweb claims that the player is valued at 80million Euros.
