Chelsea are likely to be back for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes in the summer

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are likely to be back for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes during the coming summer window.

The report revealed that Chelsea enquired about the possibility to sign the Brazilian in the January window, but nothing materialised out of that conversation.

The Blues did not stop though and broke the British transfer record to sign Argentine midfield sensation Enzo Fernandez.

Amidst the update that Chelsea would go back for Guimaraes in the summer, Newcastle are confident of agreeing on a new long-term deal with the former Lyon star.

However, the Magpies are not sure of his long-term future, as big European clubs have scouted him extensively during this season. Chelsea seem to be one of the candidates, along with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris-Saint Germain.

Guimaraes is an excellent midfield player who has flourished since arriving in the Premier League last January. He is one of the key reasons why Newcastle became so good in the second half of last season and so far this campaign. In fact, the Magpies are yet to win a game this season when he has not started.

Guimaraes has been scouted by a number of top clubs this season.

The 25-year-old is not just a great passer and controller of the ball, but also gets stuck in without possession and covers the ground at a rapid pace.

If Chelsea manage to sign him in the summer, he could form a solid partnership with Fernandez in the middle of the park. Graham Potter can play them in a midfield pivot with a number 10 or two inverted wingers ahead.

The move may depend on whether Newcastle gets Champions League football next season. We know it is highly unlikely for Chelsea to get that. If both don’t get it and the Blues offer good money, the Brazilian may well move. We never know!
