Todd Boehly takes inspiration from arch-rivals regarding Graham Potter’s future at Chelsea

Todd Boehly to retain faith in Chelsea boss Graham Potter despite a run of disappointing results

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is drawing motivation from Arsenal in order to keep Graham Potter in charge at Stamford Bridge. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team now leads the Premier League standings after overcoming enormous difficulty in the early years of his managerial career.

Boehly has made it clear that hiring the 47-year-old is for a long-term project, and poor results will allow the former Brighton manager more time to do things his way.

The Blues have only won two of their last 14 games overall and were defeated 1-0 on Saturday by struggling Southampton in the Premier League. While it more or less settles their chances of finishing in the top four, the Chelsea hierarchy remains nonplussed.

Chelsea currently sits in 10th place in the Premier League, 10 points off the Champions League spots, having won nine of their 25 games under Potter. The American businessman is taking inspiration from Arsenal, which did the same thing with Mikel Arteta, despite poor results.

Arteta has turned Arsenal into a competitive team as they remain top of the table and are the genuine contenders for the title. The Spaniard claimed he could lose his job if he failed to qualify for the Champions League but the Gunenrs are reaping the benefits of retaining faith in him.

The Gunners presently lead Manchester City by two points in the Premier League standings. Boehly is optimistic that Potter can lead Chelsea to a similar turnaround in their fortunes.

Under Roman Abramovich, we have witnessed the dismissal of managers over the years. But Boehly wants to implement his own rule, which is a fantastic idea and calls for a lot of patience that Chelsea supporters have never demonstrated.

And if we are to Arsenal as an instance, who appointed Arteta in 2019 and stood by him despite their instability, then fans and board should back the 47-year-old regardless of outcomes.

Hence, if Boehly is to fully rely on Potter, then supporters should do the same, and we don’t respond to such jeering after the game because carrying out a long-term project needs patience and perseverance.
