Manchester United keeping an eye on Chelsea contract rebel

Manchester United keeping a close eye on Mason Mount as Chelsea contract talks continue

Chelsea have yet to reach an agreement on Mason Mount’s contract extension because he wants a pay raise.

The news comes from ESPN (h/t Metro.UK), and Manchester United are interested in signing the England international if Chelsea decide to sell him in the summer window. Mount is reluctant to sign a long-term contract with Chelsea and could be on the outs if the Blues don’t extend his contract.

Only one year will be left on the contract of the England international this summer, and Chelsea and the midfielder were unable to reach an agreement on a recent amendment, (Transfermarkt).

Mount’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain.

According to the source, the England international is also being pursued by Liverpool and Manchester City. He is seeking a “substantial rise” in compensation from his present weekly wage of £80,000.

Meanwhile, it is also believed that Chelsea are also negotiating with Atletico Madrid and have offered the player to the Spanish giants in order to sign Joao Felix on a permanent deal.

The Portuguese international is currently on loan at Chelsea until the conclusion of the current campaign, but the attacker reportedly wants to make the switch permanent.

Atletico, on the other hand, are attempting to regain as much of the £113 million (€126 million) they spent in 2019 to get Felix from Benfica.

It is understood that Atletico prefer cash-only agreements, whereas Mount’s wage requirements are too high for the Spanish team.

It could be a good idea if we manage to make a swap-plus-cash deal or something of that sort. However, it appears slim as the Spanish giants will not be able to match Mount’s wages and seem like we will have to work on 24-year-old’s contract as we cannot let him leave on a free transfer.

More Chelsea News:

We can also hand him a two-to-three-year contract and then decide his future based on how he performs. As for letting him leave for a rival, it should be a strict no, especially if it’s someone like Manchester United. If he shines there, it is something that we will live to regret.
