“He will return”- Inter Milan chief gives verdict on Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea future

Inter Milan chief confirms Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea in the summer

As quoted by Daily Mail, Inter Milan chief Beppe Marotta confirms that striker Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea in the summer, though reveals that the Belgian wants to make his loan deal permanent.

After a disappointing season back at Stamford Bridge following a £97.5m move from Inter, Lukaku was loaned back to the Italian side last summer.

His second spell at San Siro hasn’t lived up to what he did the last time. Injuries have restricted the 29-year-old to only appearances this season so far.

Here’s what Marotta said regarding the Belgian international’s future (h/t Daily Mail):

“Lukaku to stay also next year? It’s too early to decide, he will return to Chelsea and we will see what’s next. Lukaku wants to stay at Inter, for sure — we know Romelu’s intention and so we will see if we can negotiate his return here.”

Lukaku hasn’t had a pleasurable last 18 months in his career. After making a big-money move to Chelsea in 2021, the Belgian had an underwhelming year at Stamford Bridge.

Fast forward to this season, the former Everton striker had injury issues which not only restricted his domestic game time but also the World Cup. Him missing multiple big chances in Belgium’s do-or-die game in Qatar depicted the type of season he is having.

Although Chelsea could do with an experienced striker in their squad from next season onward, it does not seem like they will keep hold of Lukaku following his arrival from the loan spell at Inter.

But, we shall never say never. If the Chelsea manager at the time wants to keep hold of the 29-year-old, then the club should adhere to that. The only issue is that the player’s recent history in a Blues shirt is a below-par one. Will the fans give him another chance?
