Chelsea join Manchester City in the race for 15-year-old midfielder

Chelsea and Manchester City in transfer battle to sign Arsenal Ethan Nwaneri

Chelsea are willing to go head-to-head in a transfer war with Manchester City to sign Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri.

And according to The Secret Scout (h/t Football. London), Chelsea admire the youngster and believe he can complement the club’s new initiative, but they would have to compete with Manchester City for his signature.

The Blues have been keeping an eye on the youngster’s situation and may make a move for him if Arsenal are unable to persuade him to stay.

Manchester City are another suitor who views the youngster as a potential phenomenon, as Pep Guardiola seems to build the team around youngsters.

Who is Ethan Nwaneri?

When the 15-year-old came on against Brentford for a brief cameo, he broke Cesc Fabregas’ record for being the youngest player to make his debut in Arsenal history. Nwaneri has excelled at the youth level, scoring seven goals in 13 games across all competitions. The Gunners view him as a promising young player.

He could perhaps fall into the same category as Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka as the best players, but the 15-year-old needs more time to develop into a regular starter for the senior team.

Despite the fact that he has just once played for Arsenal, it makes sense that the club would not want to put too much pressure on him considering the team’s title contention.

However, if he is not promoted to the senior team, the young player may want to leave, and Chelsea and Manchester City are prepared to pounce on him if he considers offers from other teams.

Nwaneri will have a good future if he joins Chelsea since the team is being built around promising youngsters. Todd Boehly seems to have a penchant for signing promising talent and has shown that money isn’t an issue for him if Chelsea really want a player in the market.

Chelsea only have Kai Havertz and Mason Mount in that position, Manchester City already have enough attacking midfielders who often start for the team. However, Phil Foden’s rise in Guardiola’s ranks could give the Arsenal starlet some confidence about his prospects under the Spaniard.

It will be interesting to see how things play out in the future and this could be another chance to poach an exciting youngster from the Emirates, after signing Omari Hutchinson on a free transfer last summer.
