Chelsea hope to complete the agreement soon for the contract extension of Thiago Silva

According to a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are hoping to complete the agreement soon to tie defender Thiago Silva for another year at the club.

The 38-year-old, whose current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the coming summer (Transfermarkt), is in discussions to sign a one-year extension that will keep him at Chelsea till 2024.

A few days, Silva gave an interview and revealed that the talks of his contract are going in a positive direction. He also said that the club needs him and his experience during this transition time.

Despite being 38, Silva is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the league and the best at Chelsea. His leadership, quality on the ball, reading of the game and experience is helping the team big time in a tumultuous season results-wise.

The Blues have not conceded a goal in the last three league games, and Silva is one of the main reasons why. He, along with Benoit Badiashile is slowly forming a solid pairing at the back.

At the moment, it does not look like the Brazil international is in any mood to slow down. He may well carry on like this till 40. So, Chelsea have to make sure he plays all of his last years as a footballer for us.

Moreover, with the other options we have at centre-back, there are a lot of young players there. Hence, having Silva would not only be good for the team’s performance, but also for those young defenders aspiring to be like him at the club.

If the 38-year-old stays beyond the coming summer, it would be great news for the club and the fans. We are honoured to see him don the Chelsea shirt every week.
