Chelsea send message to ex-Blues starlet affected by Turkey earthquake

Former Chelsea midfielder Christian Atsu has been listed missing after an earthquake in parts of Syria and Turkey

Former Chelsea midfielder Christian Atsu was reported missing following the earthquake in the Turkey and Syria region. He was with the Blues from 2013 to 2017 where he spent the majority of time loaned out to other clubs. Atsu left SW6 permanently in 2017 when he joined Newcastle United.

The news comes as (h/t ESPN) famous personalities around the world extend their sympathies for the citizens of both countries after Syria and Turkey were slammed by a destructive earthquake of 7.8 magnitudes that caused a building to collapse.

The footballer scored the game-winning goal in injury time as they defeated Kasmpasa 1-0 in the Turkish League. Hours later, he was confirmed missing after an earthquake struck both countries.

Mustafa Ozat, a representative for Hatayspor, stated the following to Turkish media:

“Christian Atsu and [club sporting director] Taner Savut are still under the rubble.”

Other players were also reported missing; however, they were rescued from the earthquake, and the team is working to aid others. The only two players who were missing were Atsu and Savut.

Atsu, the former Chelsea player, played the majority of his career on loans and never made his debut for the Blues. The Chelsea football club tweeted from its official account in anticipation of good news and a player’s safety As the tweet said:

“We’re praying for you, Christian Atsu.”

Additionally, it has been reported that an earthquake on Monday claimed the lives of almost 4,000 people in Turkey and northwest Syria.

To save those who are still trapped somewhere, a cooperative endeavour is currently underway. We also wish the player well. These were concerning indications for his family but according to the BBC, Atsu has been found injured and is admitted to a hospital. He is currently receiving treatment and hopefully, recovers well and be discharged soon.

The Ghanaian Football Association confirmed that there was ‘positive news’ about Atsu and that he is now admitted to a hospital. That will come as a relief to those concerned about his well-being when he was missing.
