Kalidou Koulibaly gives verdict on Joao Felix’s performance in a 2-1 defeat against Fulham
Kalidou Koulibaly thinks Joao Felix could be a difference-maker for Chelsea until his loan spell from Atletico Madrid ends this summer.
The former Napoli defender gave his remark on the Portuguese’s performance in his Premier League debut after the 23-year-old completed an £11 million loan move from Atletico Madrid. He said (h/t official club website):
‘‘He’s a talented player, an important player for us. We saw in the first 60 minutes what he can do—a lot of good things. He can change the game; he can score and make some passes. We know he is going to help us, and having a player who can change the situation is good for the confidence of the team.”
The 31-year-old defender scored during their 2-1 loss to Fulham as he attempted to spark a comeback, but Felix’s departure in the 58th minute shifted the game’s direction.
As the visitors were once again on the back foot and conceded in the 72nd minute. During the game, Felix managed six shots, of which four were on target. He also had two successful dribbles and won four fouls. Felix made a statement with his creativity and helped in the build-up during the game.
His incisive passing exploited Fulham’s defence and allowed Chelsea to dominate attacks, as they had 10 shots on target. Chelsea should have been ahead when Felix squared a pass to Kai Havertz, who couldn’t get much power on it.
The player’s salary will be covered by Chelsea throughout the end of the current campaign after the former Benfica’s loan move from Atletico Madrid; prior to joining the Blues, Felix renewed his Atletico Madrid contract until 2027.
The 23-year-old couldn’t show his striking ability as this hinted, the Blues should need to get a quality striker who can convert chances.
It was evident how his actions during the games assisted Chelsea in moving forward quickly and launching counterattacks. And it suggests how hugely he can contribute in further games, by driving the team upfront and using his creativity to set up strikers. and get on the end of chances himself.
