Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Mykhaylo Mudryk after his impressive time at Shakhtar Donetsk, which saw Chelsea beat Arsenal to his signing.
While Chelsea are in tenth place in the league table, Liverpool are having some issues of their own and have been incompetent in league games themselves.
Akin to us signing Joao Felix on loan and acquiring Mykhaylo Mudryk and David Datro Fofana, the Reds have also felt the need to strengthen their injury-stricken attack this month. Following the injuries to Luiz Diaz and Diego Jota, the Merseyside team acquired Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven for £44 million. And they are in the same predicament as Chelsea.
Both teams will play each other in a Premier League match on Saturday at lunchtime in an effort to reduce the gap to clinch a Champions League spot before the season is through.
Journalist Neil Jones tweeted the Liverpool manager’s interview (h/t Football.London), in which Klopp expressed his admiration for the young player.
“Good player, really good. incredible CL campaign. Speed, technique, and goals… He combines a lot. Having him on one wing and João Felix on the other would be interesting. Chelsea sorts their problems differently to us.”
Arsenal almost grabbed Mudryk, but Chelsea ultimately agreed to an £88 million fee with the Ukrainian club. Graham Potter will be overseeing one of his most important games, and will undoubtedly want to win in order to cut the top-four gap.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager will certainly start a strong eleven. Moreover, the 22-year-old will be hoping to make his Chelsea debut on Saturday. Given our troubles with regard to injury, fans can expect Mudryk to play at least some part in the game, if not in the starting XI.
Mudryk was terrific for the Ukrainian club, scoring 10 goals and dishing out eight assists in 18 games for Shakhtar this season, and will hope to carry the same form at West London. Klopp’s aforementioned comment goes to show how highly rated the young winger is.
The German tactician knows a thing or two about world-class wingers, having signed and developed the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at Liverpool. Hopefully, Mudryk sees similar success at SW6.
As the club is now embroiled in ambiguity, we can hope that the 22-year-old’s arrival will bring something to the table that the team can build upon in the remaining matches.
