Inter Milan looking into a deal to keep Romelu Lukaku at the Italian club for another year on loan
Romelu Lukaku who joined Inter Milan on loan from Chelsea could stay at the club for another loan spell after a poor season with The Blues.
Sport Witness (via Mirror.UK) reported that the Italian powerhouses could evaluate Chelsea’s circumstances by seeing whether they could accept a reduction on the player in their pursuit of the Belgian forward.
According to a gentleman’s agreement, the Nerazzurri may retain the player for a further loan with the same duration as the initial one.
Despite having a season marred by injuries at Inter and only one goal in seven Serie A starts, and the Italian team is eager to hold onto him.
After struggling to score goals, Chelsea decided to purchase Lukaku. The Blues believed the 29-year-old was the perfect striker because he had a successful season at Inter in 2020–21, netting 30 goals in 44 games for Inter in all competitions.
The 29-year-old’s tenure at Chelsea did not go smoothly considering he was unable to rediscover his knack for scoring goals there. The Belgian was loaned back to Inter after scoring 15 goals in 45 appearances for Chelsea, but a lengthy injury limited his playing time in Italy.
The Nerazzurri are content with retaining the player at the club for another loan period, but they want to test Chelsea’s tenacity by getting a deal on their pursuit of him.
It is true that Chelsea have had a hard time finding a striker who can consistently score goals. The latest victim of Chelsea’s curse was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was one of several high-profile striker additions in previous campaigns who failed to perform to expectations.
The Gabon international has been out of form and with the season-ending injury to Armado Broja Chelsea don’t have a striker until the end of the season, therefore we can think about giving Lukaku another opportunity to rediscover his goal-scoring prowess.

It’s reasonable that the player has only appeared in seven Serie A games this season; yet, it might be challenging to give him additional opportunities. In any case, Graham Potter and the board must decide whether or not he can aid The Belgian in rediscovering his instinct for goal-scoring.
