“Unfair of me”- Potter maintains discretion over Chelsea deal for Ligue 1 defender

Graham Potter maintains discretion about deal for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile

Speaking to @SkySportsPL as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea boss Graham Potter has played down rumours of Chelsea securing a deal for AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile.

It is being widely speculated that Chelsea have managed to secure a deal for the talented Frenchman. The young centre-back is expected to be on his way to Stamford Bridge imminently.

The Blues have apparently agreed a deal with the Ligue 1 club worth £32.8m-£33.7m and have signed the French youngster on a long-term contract. A medical has been scheduled for the player as well.

However, it has not yet been officially announced that Badiashile is on the move to Chelsea and it is understandable why Potter has chosen to not comment on this transfer yet without communication from the club’s side.

Romano claims that Badiashile will be in London on Monday to complete his medical successfully and then sign a whopping six-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues that will see him at the club until 2030.

Speaking on the transfer speculation, Potter said that it would be unfair for him to comment on a deal that has not been announced yet.

“Until somebody tells me anybody has been signed, it would be unfair of me to comment”

With Badiashile, the Blues have managed to secure the left-sided defender that they really wanted to add to the squad. Gvardiol was also an option for the club but a move never materialized for the Croatian.

Potter has shown a preference to go with a backline of Kalidou Koulibaly and Thiago Silva when fit. The fact that he has shifted to a back four means that a place for a central defender no longer exits.

Wesley Fofana is expected to return from injury soon and he will definitely be a player that Potter really counts on. There is also Trevoh Chalobah whose fortunes seem to have changed since Potter has arrived.
