“Elite level”- Potter sheds light on German ace’s role at Chelsea

Graham Potter has his say on the position of Chelsea star Kai Havertz

Speaking in an interview as quoted by Football. London, Graham Potter has his say on the position of Chelsea star Kai Havertz and has hinted at a system to bring out the player’s elite goalscoring qualities.

Potter used the example of the German national team where Havertz finds himself at home and scores quite a few goals and says that he is trying to figure out a similar position for him in the Blues team.

The rewards are already here to see. Havertz scored in the game against Bournemouth and it was his movement to the near post that led to Chelsea’s only goal last night against Nottingham Forest.

Havertz is one of those players who is too versatile for his own good. He can play in multiple positions in multiple systems and managers often tend to struggle to figure out where he is best at.

The German has the quality to be one of the best players of Chelsea and arguably even in the Premier League, and it’s high time we start seeing the quality in his performances on the pitch.

Speaking about how he plans to use Havertz, Potter had a rather detailed assessment of what he is trying to do with the German international at Stamford Bridge.

“With the period that we’ve had, we’ve had to adapt a few things. It’s nice to get that clarity [on position], but sometimes it’s not possible. I have to make the [team selection] decision based on what I think every day in training and Kai is a German International who scores goals and plays for the national team, and looking at his goal record there, it is elite level”

Chelsea signed Havertz for a huge price. The talented German has had his moments in a Blues shirt and has scored some really important goals for us in big games but he can still do much better.

He is far too inconsistent for the Blues. A series of good performances is followed by a rather long series of duds and at a club like Chelsea, that is definitely not enough.

The German forward has what it takes to be spoken about in the same breath as Phil Foden. He is that good and let’s hope Potter is the manager who manages to tap that out of him.
