Former Scottish international provides his verdict on Chelsea’s win over Crystal Palace

Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin thinks Chelsea deserved to beat Crystal Palace

As quoted by BBC Live, former Chelsea and Scotland winger Pat Nevin believes the Blues probably deserved to beat Crystal Palace.

Graham Potter’s men squeezed past the Eagles 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to stop the run of three defeats. While the result does not change their dynamic in the table (still 10th), the three points would instil some confidence back in the team.

Looking at the positives from this game, Thiago Silva played exceptionally well, helped out ably by Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah. Although Kai Havertz missed a few chances, his winning goal would be great for his form going forward. Youngster Carney Chukwuemeka did well too.

Here’s what Nevin said regarding the result and the performance from Chelsea (h/t BBC Live):

“Palace will probably feel they should have taken the brakes off earlier on.

“Thiago Silva got on the end of everything and he was probably the best player on the park. They managed to keep the clean sheet. He was helped by Badiashile.

“Chelsea probably deserved it. Graham Potter finally made a change that worked the way it should have worked.”

To add happiness to the victory, Chelsea announced the signing of winger Mykhailo Mudryk during the game and unveiled him to the crowd at half-time. The Blues defeated Arsenal in the race to sign the Ukraine international.

Potter was positive and claimed that the fans would love to watch him when asked about the arrival of the 22-year-old to the club.

We do not have a mid-week game now, meaning there is a full week to prepare for a crunch game against Liverpool at Anfield. The consolation is that the Reds are in dire form going into that game. Hence Chelsea does have a chance to nick something away from home.

The importance of the Palace win can only be felt if the consistency of the performances starts to pick up in the coming weeks. Having been out of both the domestic cup competitions, we will get time in between games to prepare and be at our best, both physically and mentally.
